How long is Xtreme Hike?
Actual hiking distance varies year to year, but generally ranges from 25-30 miles. The entire event spans a weekend, as hikers arrive at the venue the night before the hike, and stay the night after, and festivities often include a welcome dinner, a celebratory finish, and brunch on Sunday morning. Contact your local chapter for more information on the specific location and distance of the hike.
What happens if it rains?
Xtreme Hike is a rain or shine event. In the days leading up to the event, we reach out to participants to encourage them to bring appropriate gear, based on the forecast and in the event that conditions change. That said, in the event of severe weather, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation may postpone or cancel an event.
Will there be food and beverages at Xtreme Hike?
Meals are provided to participants throughout the weekend. During the hike itself, there are rest stops situated along the trail, where hikers can rest, hydrate with various drinks and energize themselves with a range of complementary snacks. Contact your local chapter for more specific information concerning the food and beverages provided on site.
Is payment required to participate in Xtreme Hike?
There is a suggested registration donation of $100 as well as a suggested fundraising amount. In the past, the DC Metro chapter has recommended that individual participants set a goal of raising $2,500. Questions or concerns about this figure? Reach out to us via the “contacts” page on this site.
Can my child participate in Xtreme Hike?
Children under the age of 18 are not permitted to participate in Xtreme Hike. However, we welcome their support as volunteers. For more information about becoming an event volunteer, click on the “contacts” page to query an event organizer.

All virtual hikers will receive access to the “Participant Center” to help them raise funds for Xtreme Hike, and can still qualify to receive Xtreme Hike materials associated with the event.

If you are no longer able to hike, you can still be a part of the event as a volunteer or a virtual hiker. For more information about becoming an event volunteer, please visit the CFF event home page or reach out to us on the “contact” page.
